Terms
Draft pending review. This plain-language summary reflects how the app works today. The Way’s owner still needs to review it, ideally with legal advice, before it becomes the official policy.
These are the ground rules for using The Way. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. Our Privacy page explains how we handle your data.
What The Way is
- An independent app for adults practising French for life in Canada, including practice for the TCF and TEF exams.
- The Way is not affiliated with the organisations that run the TCF or TEF. Practice tasks are original and are not official exam material.
- Readiness estimates, level checks and feedback are practice guidance. They are not official scores and don’t guarantee an exam result, a CLB/NCLC level or an immigration outcome.
Josh and automated feedback
- Josh is an AI practice partner powered by Google Gemini, not a person or a certified teacher. OpenAI helps check writing, speaking transcripts and unclear typed vocabulary answers. Automated replies and feedback can be wrong. Check anything important.
- Conversations are practice. Don’t share sensitive personal details, like passport or financial information, in them.
- AI features have daily limits, and they may be unavailable at times. Your saved practice stays available.
Your account
- Use your own details and keep your password private. One account per person.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- You can export your data or delete your account at any time in Settings.
Your content
What you write and record stays yours. You let The Way store it and process it to run the app for you, including sending it to Google Gemini or OpenAI when you start a feature that uses them. Study group members see your profile name and weekly points. The conversation leaderboard shows your roleplay results under a nickname, and only if you choose to join it.
Fair use
Please don’t:
- try to access other people’s accounts or data, or get around the app’s limits;
- overload, scrape or attack the service, or use it to build a competing product;
- upload anything unlawful, or use groups to harass other learners;
- copy and republish the app’s lessons, audio or artwork.
We may suspend accounts that break these rules.
The service
The Way is provided as it is. We work to keep it available and your progress safe, but features may change and there may be interruptions. To the extent the law allows, The Way is not responsible for indirect losses, such as a missed exam goal.
Changes
If these terms change, we will update this page and the date at the top. If you keep using The Way after that, the new terms apply.
